Background

Maurice Cole (MC) is a world-renowned surfboard designer and shaper; who’s designed ‘magic’ surfboards for the worlds elite surfers including Tom Curren, Kelly Slater, Ross Clarke Jones, Barton Lynch and many more. MC surfboards are at the cutting edge of design and performance, but unfortunately MC’s existing website was anything but cutting edge! Non-responsive, hard to update and even worse… the site had been corrupted.

Project

Cooke Creative were briefed to create a new website that would reflect the look and functionality of MC’s boards, with content to include his latest designs, history, design philosophy, a journal/blog and MC’s many side projects. Like most creative people Maurice usually has several on the go at any on time. MC supplies surfboards to retail outlets across the globe and these are all promoted and linked to the site.

In terms of functionality, the new website needed to be responsive, easy to navigate and user friendly, to make ordering a surfboard as straightforward as possible. There is a shop for Stock Surfboards and Fins, as well as an order form for all custom orders, all linked through the ‘Stripe’ payment gateway, so orders and sales are easily tracked and recorded.

Maurice is a superb surfer in his own right, so images of Maurice testing his designs, as well as many of the 'world's best' surfing the various models on offer are used throughout the site. Images were sourced from around the globe, from a huge variety of surf photographers. Each surfboard model has a bespoke video explaining the design theory of each surfboard. Videos are linked through YouTube and promoted across social media channels including Instagram, where Maurice has a huge and devoted following.

Side projects highlighted in the website include: The Reverse V Project, The Design Collective and Sustainable Surfboards along with collaborations with partners Roark and Future Fins.

Result

Since the launch of the new website, the MC newsletter has received approx. 5 new subscriptions each week and MC’s employed a sales person to handle all the new orders from across the globe. Sounds like a pretty successful launch to us!
